And I'm back! Sorry for the silence, had a slow few weeks where I didn't get a lot of painting time, and since I was batch painting, I don't like posting half finished models.
Anyway, finished a batch more models since I last posted. More winterguard, although I forgot a photo. Also some more Yu Jing for that commission. I painted all seven minis together and man, with such detailed models batch painting that many is a real chore. Keeps them all consistent though, so that's the reason. The Domaru establishes the colours for the heavy infantry, and I tried a few different options before settling on the gold accents. Pretty happy with it. Also, yellow is my absolute favourite OSL colour I think.
Next up is the first model for a Texico MERCS team I'm painting for a guy. Once they're finished I'll also be undertaking a Chaos Warriors army for him. The brief for Texico was 'dusty wild west'. I went to town on the coat with weathering, trying to make it look like a properly old and battered piece of leather, covered in dust and scratches. Pretty happy with how it looks, the MERCS minis are so much fun to paint.
Finally, I painted a few more of the Reaper Bones minis. Still hate the material, but oh well. Just basic paintjobs on these, nothing fancy, they'll only ever be used as game pieces.
Anyway, that's all for now, but I should have some more updates soon.

On Your Base, Killing Your Dudes; based FCC
I finished basing the other three FCC MERCS. Not as happy with them as I was with the test base, but they'll do.

Small Dwarf with a Big Sword; random dwarf plus based MERCS
Hey folks, just thought I'd post up my work for the day. Had a quiet few weeks in the hobby while I did other stuff with my time, but I recently found a cheap blister of old Marauder dwarf longbeards. Now, while I'm a fan of the new, modern dwarf models, I also love these characterful old models. I don't plan to put them in my army, so they'll just be painted for fun. NMM is still the one technique that does my head in. This attempt isn't perfect, but it looks ok I think... :-/
I also went back to a model I painted last year. It's about time I got back to MERCS, so I based one of my finished FCC models. Happy with how it turned out I think.

The Lady of the House; last of the FCC (for now)
Oh my, two weeks since my last update? Sorry about that.
Mostly just because I haven't been hobbying hard, work's been keeping me busy, and what I have been painting isn't too exciting until finished (terrain, why you so boring to paint?).
Anyway, it's high time for an update, and I never got around to posting pics of this lady, the FCC Housemaster. I painted her over a week ago, but here she is. Bit of a rush job, but she'll do. That ammo belt is such a stupid piece for a model, I know it's going to break off the moment someone looks at it wrong. Oh well.
Hopefully there'll be some new stuff coming soon, I have some pretty new models to paint (as if I didn't have enough...), and my Figure Art artbook by Roman Lappat and Raffaele Picca arrived today. Check these guys out on Massive Voodoo, if by some miracle you aren't already aware of their awesomeness. Two of the most talented painters in the world, and I was super thrilled to be able to back their crowdfunding campaign.
All the pretty pictures will hopefully get me inspired to wield the brushes again :)

This Is My Boomstick; FCC Boomer
One of my favourite MERCS minis, the FCC Boomer. Not 100% happy with him, but he'll do. About 3 hours work this arvo. Used a bit more colour on him than the Packrat, does it work?

MERC for Hire; something different finally - FCC Packrat
Decided to take a break from the historicals by painting one of my new MERCS miniatures. MERCS is a totally awesome game that I first got into a few years ago, played a few games, then neglected. Now during my hobby renaissance I'm determined to go back and do it justice, and as part of that I've picked up two new teams, FCC and USCR.
Almost all my painting this year has been in large batches, and while it's allowed me to paint a lot (124 models and counting), it hasn't helped me really improve my skills to try and get back to where I was a few years ago before 3 years of neglect dulled my skillzors. So with my MERCS I'm going to try and take a bit more care - they're such nice, characterful, detailed models, they deserve nothing less.
I wanted to try and capture something of the stylised, graphic nature of the MERCS art, so I deliberately went for contrast and blacklining to try and make the model distinctive. Not sure how well it worked, let me know.
I see the FCC as definite socialist anarchists - victims of the global corporate society of MERCS, these guns for hire come from the 'Lost Margin', those areas of the world where Megacorps have failed, leading to chaos and war.
I'm pretty happy with how the Packrat has turned out, I just need to decide on a base scheme now.
Also, I playtested my rules for WOTR last night for the first time in two years. Only a small game with the forces I have painted, but it was one of the most fun, tense, unpredictable games I've played in years! I'll be doing some rules/playtesting related posts soon.
