Left, Right, Left, BZZZT; more Deadzone

Spent yesterday in Melbourne visiting friends, which was nice. Came back via the Great Ocean Road, very spectacular sunset over the coast! So many great colours.
Anyway, enough of that boring real life nonsense, the real news is that I painted more models! Another Marauder grunt and, after a long hiatus, some more 6mm 40k!

Marauder first - this guy was a nice model to paint, didn't take long either. Just a rush job, but I'm happy with him. Marauder guns have a kind of retro sci fi vibe I think, so I went with tarnished bronze and lots of purple glowy bits.

I'll post more about the 40k stuff soon, for now, enjoy a teaser of what's to come...

For All Your Professional Knife Murdering Needs; Deadzone marauder

Well hey hey, what do you know, two posts in two days, am I getting back in the hobby saddle? Hopefully. I got my painting space more or less set up today. Hopefully once everything's settled I'll actually be able to have a dedicated airbrushing space in the garage that might mean I use that tool more often.

Anyway, the first model of my hopefully 365 for this year is... a Deadzone Marauder! Deadzone is definitely one project I want to try and get stuck into pretty fast. We'll see how that goes.
Nothing too fancy with the paintjob, just tabletop stuff. One thing I like about the Mantic Orx is their relatively 'professional' look. These guys aren't total savages, they have uniforms and equipment. Since the skin would be green, I stuck to urban camo and neutral khaki's for the rest of the model, to accentuate the military look. And then added blood spatter.
Still working out what to do for the bases.

And.... I'm back

Sorry for the extended interlude folks! I hadn't intended to be gone for long, but between a week moving, then a week unpacking, I haven't had a lot of hobby time lately (or access to my stuff!). I only got the internet back a couple days ago too (highlight of the week...). Anyway, now that I am mostly settled into the Booliest of Warrnams, hopefully I'll be able to get stuck back into the hobby.
One thing that might provide some motivation is the fact that finally, after four years in the wilderness, I have a gaming club I can attend locally. Mostly 40k on offer, but hopefully I can convert some people to the beauty of skirmish games.
I organised to have a game of Warmachine today with one of the few club guys who plays it. 35pts, my Khador vs his Cryx. Somehow, I managed to table him without losing a model. Well, the 'somehow' probably came down to him not knowing his models or mine very well and maybe making a few mistakes, but still, I'd like to think my tactics had something to do with the outcome. (by tactics I mean, 'cast signs and portents and use For the Motherland, remove enemy models')
Either way, it was good fun and he was a good opponent. I'm looking forward to getting to try out a few other lists and options in the future.
Unfortunately, like an idiot, I forgot to take any pictures of the game today. Oops. Have to remember to take my camera next week.

Thanks for reading, hopefully more soon,

Farewell 2013, hello 2014; the year that was, a photodump

Well ladies and gentlemen, let's raise a glass to celebrate 2013, the year that was. I don't know about the rest of you, but it was a pretty good year for me. Certainly vastly better than 2012 was. Let's hope 2014 is even better.

Sadly I don't have any new painting progress to show - going away over Christmas, coupled with all the preparations for moving next week, has meant all things hobby taking a back seat. Hopefully once I'm unpacked down in Warrnambool I'll be able to resume the hobbying hard. I've got big hopes for 2014 finally being the year I get my game on after years in the wilderness.

Anyway, with the start of a new year, I thought I'd look back on the last 12 months and revisit what I painted. On that front, last year was a phenomenal success. I painted 232 models - fully painted and -most- based too, no 'half painted but it'll do' nonsense. For someone who struggled to even paint one model a month, it's been a big turnaround, and I think I've improved a lot as a result. Certainly practice does make a big difference, as does the inspiration of fellow hobbyists - a particular shout out to my friend Staz Matt, who never fails to impress.

I'm not big on new year's resolutions, however I'd like to try and set a goal of painting 356 models this year, one a day. We'll see if I can manage it - it'll be a challenge, but given I barely painted for three months of last year, and still managed over 200 models, I think it can be done. I'll give it a shot at least.

Now, to finish this off, here's a selection of models I painted this year, in chronological order, which will hopefully show some kind of progress. As a treat, it includes some material from before I began this blog - the arrival of Sedition Wars was what motivated me to get painting again, even if the game was a let down.

Enjoy the pics, and I hope to provide many more over the rest of the year! :)
